The game of school is one that I played for nine years of my public schooling. Teachers from year to year could be described as "hit or miss" teachers. Where some years you would get a really excellent teacher who was engaged in our learning, who had us work with groups, gave us books, and taught us life lessons, but most years you would get a teacher that was just going through the motions, almost waiting for his or her paycheck day by day. I made a connection to what the teacher who worked in the YMCA said about the kids doing there homework. I remember when I attended Cumberland public schools back in elementary and middle school, and I did the same thing. I would read until I found a question, and then I would put the book down. This wasn't because I didn't like to read, or because I was lazy, it was mainly just because I was unmotivated. When I got to high school however a lot of things changed. Instead of attending public high school I attended private Catholic high school. Everything was different. I did not have one bad teacher throughout my whole experience in high school. Most of the teachers being young, and enthusiastic, and passionate about their work. The game of school is sad because I went through it, but got out just in time. It's sad that not all schools an be like my high school. This article really made me appreciate my education.
